Biography of Mabel O. Wilson

Mabel O. Wilson’s design experiments, scholarly research and advocacy projects focus upon space, politics and cultural memory in black America; raciality, technology, and aesthetics; and the globalization of architectural practice.

As the Nancy and George E. Rupp Professor, she teaches architectural design and architectural theory/history courses at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP), where she also co-directs GSAPP’s Global Africa Lab and the Architecture, Space, and Politics Project (ASAP). Her recent book Negro Building: Black Americans and the World of Fairs and Museums studies how the spaces of world’\’s fairs, emancipation expositions, and grassroots public museums became sites to imagine Afro-modernity.
